13 Eylül 2015 ve Sofa District’te bir şenlik.
Pazar günlerinin (gördüğüm kadarıyla) klasiği, San Jose’de
gündüz sokak eğlenceleri, festivaller! Ama geç kalmayın, karanlık çökünce
biter!
Bu pazarın da eğlencesi Sofa District’deydi. Her yerde ayrı
bir rock grubunun sahne aldığı bu alternatif sanat festivalini 1. caddeyi güney
yönünde takip ettiğinizde bulabiliyorsunuz. San Jose Institute of Contemporary
Art (San Jose Çağdaş Sanatlar Müzesi) de bu sokak üzerinde. Bu hafta
neler vardı, merak ettik göz attık.
Alışkın olduğumuz müze kavramından çok alışkın olduğumuz
sanat galerisi tarzında karşılıyor bizi. Girişler ücretsiz ve hep öyleymiş yazdığı
kadarıyla. İşte içeride gördüklerimiz:

Lookout, 2015
Video loop, edition of 6, 9:29
Lookout records the act of observing. The piece asks more questions than it answers. It joins together two geographically far-flung situations of "found" content - the man is in Brazil and vultures are in South Africa. In neither situation was the action directed by the artist. Human and animal are hardly moving. The man looks behind him once, but most of the time he is looking out, as the vultures, watching and waiting.
Chance Operations, 2011
Oil on linen and video projection
The title, Chance Operations, intentionally implies many possible meanings of the word chance, as well as referencing John Cage's method of composing music. Kremer's painting process is in some ways a product of chance, linking many hours of impulse, accident and intention that come together on the surface of the canvas. Kremer considers chance her unacknowledged collaborator, much the way John Cage referred to it in his composition process. The projection here is a video of the artist creating the painting. The combination of painting and projection, which Kremer first started exploring in 2008, embody the unpredictable conjuction of the two media, resulting in a hybrid.

Only Connect, 2008-2015
Video animation, edition of 6, 8:50
The title of the exhibition, Age of Entanglement, borrows from the physics term quantum entanglement, which refers to the interconnectedness of far-flung phenomena. This piece serves as a metaphor for the connection of the billions of people who share life on the planet earth. Only Connect refers to a quote from Howard's End by E.M Forster: "Only connect the prose and the passion, and both will be exalted, and human love will be seen at its highest."
